Provide Box Contents in InventoryLab: Feed vs. 2D Barcodes

Learn the difference between using Feeds or 2D Barcodes to provide Amazon box contents, and when each method is best for your workflow.

Updated yesterday

When shipping inventory to Amazon, it's crucial to include box content information otherwise Amazon may assess fees.

InventoryLab offers two streamlined options for submitting this data:

Option 1: Using Feed

  • Activate this method by setting Box Contents On – Using Feed when creating your batch.

  • Proceed through your workflow in the Box It stage, where you can assign items to boxes manually, in bulk, or using quick methods like Quick Box.

  • Finally, enter box dimensions and weights to prepare your shipment.

Best for: Sellers who prefer manually assigning items and need flexibility throughout the boxing process.

Option 2: Using 2D Barcodes

  • Make sure 2D barcodes are enabled in both Seller Central and InventoryLab.

  • Choose On – Using 2D Barcode during the batch setup to generate Amazon-compliant PDF417 barcode labels.

  • During boxing, assign items to boxes (up to 40 ASINs per box to stay within barcode character limits).

  • Print the barcodes using a thermal or laser printer, ensuring your settings preserve the correct size.

Best for: Larger operations that want automated labeling, faster scanning, and streamlined packing workflows.

Note: While creating LTL Pack Last Shipments, Box It only supports label printing when 2D barcodes are used, meaning LTL users must opt for 2D barcodes if they want to generate labels while packing their items.
