Labeling Preferences

Learn how to choose the correct FBA label owner—Seller, Amazon, or None—and manage barcode settings in InventoryLab and Seller Central.

Each item added to an FBA batch must have a label owner: Seller, Amazon, or None. You can control this through the Label Owner field in the Product Information area and your Seller Central settings.

Selecting a Label Type

  1. While listing an item in Find It, locate the Label Owner field under Product Information.

Seller: With this option, you will be responsible for labeling your items before sending them to Amazon.

None: Allows eligible items to be tracked using their UPC, EAN, JAN, or ISBN without applying an additional Amazon barcode label.

Note: Amazon has discontinued its FBA prep and labeling service in the US. As a result, the Amazon label owner option is now greyed out and can no longer be selected. If an item is still set to Amazon, InventoryLab will automatically change it to Seller when the batch is submitted and display the message "Updated from AMAZON to SELLER".

Seller Central Label Preferences

Within your Seller Central account settings, you can choose between using manufacturer barcodes (None) or Amazon barcodes (Seller) to track items once they arrive at the FBA warehouses.

For a visual walkthrough of managing manufacturer/Amazon barcode settings in Seller Central, follow along with our video Getting Started - How to Optimize Settings, starting at 0:55.

Manufacturer Barcode (None)

This option allows eligible items to be tracked using their UPC, EAN, JAN, or ISBN without applying an additional Amazon barcode label.

As of March 31, 2026, Amazon no longer commingles FBA inventory. Eligible brand owners with the appropriate Amazon Brand Registry role can continue using manufacturer barcodes, while resellers must use Amazon barcode labels (FNSKUs) for their FBA inventory.

If you'd prefer to label the items yourself (Seller), you can change your barcode preference in Seller Central.

To select Amazon barcode as your preference:

  1. Seller Central > Settings > Fulfillment by Amazon > FBA Product Barcode Preference

  2. Click Edit

  3. Select Amazon barcode

  4. Click Update

To select Manufacturer barcode as your preference, if eligible:

  1. Seller Central > Settings > Fulfillment by Amazon > FBA Product Barcode Preference

  2. Click Edit

  3. Select Manufacturer barcode

  4. Click Update

If you need help deciding which preference to choose, the following Seller Central help articles explain the major differences between the two:

Amazon Barcode (Seller)

With this option, the item will be tracked by an FNSKU unique to you, which will be printed on your label. You'll be responsible for printing and applying the label before sending your inventory to Amazon.

If you prefer to label items yourself, make sure Amazon barcode is selected as your FBA Product Barcode Preference in Seller Central, as described in the steps above.
