Bill of Lading

Updated today

The Bill of Lading is a legal shipping document that acts as:

  1. A receipt of goods – issued by the carrier once they pick up your pallets or freight.

  2. A contract of carriage – it outlines the terms under which the carrier agrees to transport the goods.

  3. A document of title – proof of ownership of the goods while in transit.

For Amazon FBA, you’ll encounter a BOL when you ship via LTL (Less than Truckload), either with Amazon’s Partnered Carrier Program or with your own non-partnered carrier.

The BOL will include details like shipper info, consignee (Amazon fulfillment center), carrier info, number of pallets, freight class, PRO numbers (if non-partnered), and reference IDs (like FBA shipment ID).

In short the BOL is what the driver uses when picking up your pallets and what Amazon requires upon delivery to check in your shipment.

Here's how you can print it in InventoryLab:

  1. Once you have successfully purchased your shipping labels, you will see the option to print different types of labels.

  2. Click Print Bill of Lading.

  3. Select the shipment you want to print for by ticking the boxes and clicking Print Bill of Lading, or Print All Bill of Lading.

  4. The bill will be downloaded to your computer, and is ready to print.

If the option to print the BOL is greyed out, you will have to wait for it to become available. This will be no later than the morning of your ship date.

The BOL is also unavailable through InventoryLab if you are using a non-partnered carrier. With an NPC, you have to get your BOL from them during the Ship It step so you can enter the required PRO number.
